Notes on Names
Women who were inducted into the register singly are listed by their married name, if applicable, with their maiden name in parenthesis. There also are typically references under the maiden names directing the user to the married name.
Many immigrants changed their names upon arriving in America. If the family provided both names, the main entry for the person is listed in the contents under the American name with references under the original name. Note that last names where both the original and American names are similar, such as Jansson – Johnson, Nilson – Nelson, Olafson – Olson, Bjork – Burk do not have references under the original name.
