ReadStreet is a partnership between the McPherson Public Library and Midway Motors designed to deliver library materials to our patrons in the city while the library is closed due to the pandemic emergency.
We greatly appreciate Midway’s generosity in providing a transport vehicle for the service and making it all possible.
The Rules
- ReadStreet is available to any adult or teen McPherson Public Library cardholder residing within the city limits of McPherson.
- Your account must be clear of all fines and other charges. (To make payments online, click on the My Account menu above and select Pay Online.)
- Library materials available for delivery are books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs.
- You must have an email address.
- You must live in a residence with an outside door. We do not deliver to apartment buildings or businesses.
- We will not pick up any items to be returned which you leave on your porch. You are responsible for returning them to either of our book returns on the south and north sides of the library.
- Your yard must be free of dogs. Any sightings or encounters will result in your eligibility for the service being revoked immediately.
How it Works
- You select items (maximum of 12 per week) from our online catalog. (Use the Catalog link on the menu at the top of this page.)
- We fill your order and email you with a specific delivery date. (This is all new to us as well, so it will take a while before we have an idea about wait times.) Inclement weather will delay deliveries.
- On delivery day we will place a brown paper bag containing the items on your porch and ring the bell.
- Your items will have a due date, but we will not charge fines. If you have overdue items on your account, they must be returned before you receive any additional orders.
- We quarantine all returned materials for three days before making them available again for checkout. Some deliveries may be delayed as we wait for an item to come out of quarantine.
Getting Started
- Complete and submit a ReadStreet registration form (at the bottom of this page). You only have to do this the first time.
- You will receive a confirmation email from the McPherson Public Library with additional instructions. Make sure this email does not go into your spam folder.
- After you've been registered, visit our catalog using the Catalog link at the top of this page and log in using your library card number and PIN. (If you've forgotten your PIN or need one, email us at readstreet@macpl.org.)
- Browse or search the catalog. When you see an item you want, look at the "Number of copies available" (under the call number). If there are copies available, select PLACE HOLD/QUICKCHECK to place it on our delivery list for you. If there are no copies available and you would like to receive that item when it is returned to the library, select PLACE HOLD/QUICKCHECK to place it on hold. We will notify you when it is returned.
