National Library Week is April 5 – 10
During the week of April 5 – 9, libraries around the country, including the McPherson Public Library, will celebrate National Library Week. The week, started in 1958, is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.
The McPherson Public Library has several activities planned in recognition of the week.
Monday, April 5 – A Take & Make project for children through grade 5 will be available. This kit includes supplies to create a bookmark box and bookmarks. Sign up begins March 31, and kits can be picked up at the library April 5 through April 11.
Also beginning March 31, teens can sign up to create Bottle Cap Magnets, and pick up the project kit at the library April 5 through April 11. Registration for both projects can be found at macpl.libcal.com
Tuesday, April 6 – Poetry Brunch Kits. In recognition of National Library Week and Poetry Month, a take home kit for adults containing brunch items and materials to encourage participants to enjoy the craft and creation of poetry will be available. To register for a kit, go to macpl.libcal.com. Poetry Brunch kits will be available for pick up at the library April 6 through April 16.
Wednesday, April 7 – 9:30 a.m. Virtual Storytime via zoom. Register for this fun, weekly event at macpl.libcal.com.
The Kitchen Window with Anne Kirchner. Anne Kirchner will share her culinary expertise via zoom with a spin on the library’s traditional Cookie Day. She will demonstrate three quick, easy, and delicious cookie recipes, and offer her insights and baking tips. To register for this program and receive the recipes to bake along with her, send your first and last name to shannon@macpl.org.
Thursday, April 8 – The release of Click! 2: More Historic McPherson Photographs and Their Stories. This video is the second documentary highlighting photos from the library’s collection and the stories behind them. “We had such a tremendous response to the first video — and so many requests from patrons for more — that we’re happy to produce this latest one,” says Steve Read, library Director. You can find Click! 2 through the library’s website at www.macpl.org beginning April 8.
Throughout the week, social media posts will be released to demonstrate a behind the scenes look at the library. You can “like” the McPherson Public Library Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcphersonpublic and the Youth Services page at www.facebook.com/MacPLYouth.
Library patrons are encouraged to enjoy all of the week’s activities and celebrate libraries everywhere. For additional information call the library at 245-2570 or email them at library@macpl.org.
