Photographs by Kalene Nisly on Display
The photography of Kalene Nisly, in the show From Refugee to Home, will be on display in the library meeting room from November 4 through December 27. Nisly describes herself as a storyteller, and her photographs depict powerful images in which she feels honored to play a part
From Refugee to Home follows those who have been displaced and are making new lives in Wichita. The images, as noted by Nisley, hold loss, but also show extraordinary perseverance. They show incredible courage and a will to shape a new future for their families in the plains of Kansas. Telling the stories of refugees is an honor for Nisly. She says, “We are all the sum of the stories we hold dearest. Refugee families add a richness to the tapestry of our communities and this show hopes to tell that story.” When Nisly is not telling the stories of life and love with her camera, she’s an editor for an art and poetry magazine, the marketing manager at Bluebird Books and Café in Hutchinson and volunteers for the International Rescue Committee in Wichita.
